Heather stepped out of her house just as Walt and Danielle walked by.

“Hey, wait up!” Heather shouted as she ran to catch up with them.

“Why aren’t you at work?” Walt asked when Heather reached them. They all continued walking toward the pier.

“I’m working from home today. They were supposed to be done today, but I guess they had some electrical problem with my office,” Heather explained. “Not that I can actually get any work done at home, with Pearl hanging around all the time. She left my house a few minutes ago, and I need to talk to you both… Hey, where’re we going?”

“To Pier Café. After Pearl left your place, she showed up at ours. And when she overheard Brian and Joe planned to interview Carla, she wanted to listen,” Danielle explained.

Heather groaned. “I think Pearl’s learned to harness energy.”

“That’s why we’re going to Pier Café,” Danielle said. “I don’t think she’s figured out how to control it. In fact, I don’t think she knows how she’s doing it.”

“What happened at your house?” Walt asked as they continued toward the pier.

“She’s been hanging out all morning, giving me all her theories, telling me to pass them on to Brian. I thought she was annoying before,” Heather grumbled.

“What happened with her energy?” Walt asked.

“Every time she’d get worked up, a light flickered or something would fall off the shelf. I told her to stop doing it or she was going to break something. She said she didn’t know what I was talking about. And then she left.”

“She came to our house,” Danielle said.

“And this is why I’ll never murder someone,” Heather blurted. “Brian is safe with me. He doesn’t have to worry about me going homicidal if he cheats on me.”

Danielle chuckled. “I assume you mean because then your victim’s ghost could hang around and annoy you?”

Heather nodded. “Exactly.”

When the three reached Pier Café a few minutes later, they found Marie and Pearl sitting alone in a booth across from Joe and Brian. They said hello to the two officers, but then sat down in the booth with the two ghosts.

“When we got here, they’d already spoken to Carla,” Marie explained.

“From what we overheard, they’re going to talk to Andy Delarosa,” Pearl told them as she stared over at Brian and Joe. “I know Andy has to be the one who killed us. This is not the time to be eating. They need to get over to his house before he escapes.” Pearl continued to stare over at the officers, now focusing her energy on Joe’s plate of food.

Noticing Pearl’s intense focus on the next table, Heather started to say something, but before she could utter a word, Joe’s plate flew out from under him, landing on the floor and shattering into pieces.

Joe stared down at his food now on the floor. Speechless and confused at what had just happened, Joe muttered, “What the hell?”

Brian looked over to Heather, who nodded to the space next to her.

“You can’t be throwing dishes on the floor,” Marie scolded.
